Post that patient Achappam making and munching on session, all I wanted was a nice cup of sweet black tea. Rose Cardamom Tea.
“When tea becomes ritual, it takes its place at the heart of our ability to see greatness in small things. Where is beauty to be found? In great things that, like everything else, are doomed to die, or in small things that aspire to nothing, yet know how to set a jewel of infinity in a single moment?”
― Muriel Barbery,
Such beautiful, thoughtful words. It resonates well with today’s tea. The ingredients are few and simple but the flavor is delightful. By rose cardamom tea I do not mean rose petals but rose water. Rose water is such a great addition to sweet black tea and adds a certain depth to the flavor of the tea.
Rose Cardamom Tea
4 cups water
5-6 green cardamom pods (gently crushed)
2 teaspoons loose black tea or 4 black tea bags
1-tsp rose water
In a medium sized saucepan add the water, sugar and gently crushed green cardamom pods. Bring the water to a simmer.
Add the tea bags and let the water come to a boil.
Turn off the heat and let the tea steep for about 5-7 minutes depending on how strong you like your tea.
Finally, let the tea come to a final boil again before straining.
Stir in a few drops of rose water to the tea before serving.
