Living in the Middle East I am now all too familiar with the scorching heat and humidity that dominates the weather most of the year. But we too have a couple of months of winter, which I eagerly await. And what better than the smell of warm spices and the earthy orange of pumpkin. Spiced Pumpkin Chai Latte.
The cool breeze that arrives mid- October, parks and beaches specked with families out for a pleasant evening, store windows displaying brand new winter collections (which would come in handy if you decide to go on a holiday to a chilly destination), and if we’re lucky a couple of rain showers in December. The sight of thousands of migratory birds is also a once in a year occurrence. O how pleasant are those few months.
With winter thoughts in my mind, I have wanted to try out a Pumpkin Chai Latte for the longest time. I experimented with different techniques and spice mixes before getting the flavor exactly the way I wanted.
This delicious blend is a warming combination of pureed pumpkin infused with select chai spices, milk and a strong shot of black tea. With patience and a touch of love, this drink feels like home.
Curling up with my current book (Forty rules of love – Elif Shafak) read and a warm cup of pumpkin chai, I look out the window humming a rain song, wishing winter was here already.
